What stays on your device

The apps and websites you block, your limits, bathroom sessions and what you use your phone for stay on your device. The only exceptions are the bypass alerts and streak described below, which go to your partner.

What the Tether server stores

  1. Your account: the name you give, and the email from Apple or Google sign-in.
  2. Your phone number, to make sure each person has one account. We check whether a number is a mobile or internet line with Twilio when you add it.
  3. A random ID for each device you sign in on, and its notification token, so requests reach the right phone.
  4. Who your partner is, invite links you create, and the requests you and your partner send and answer, including any reason you add.
  5. If you have a partner: bypass alerts from your Android phone (what kind of attempt, when, and the app or site involved), your current streak, and when your phone last checked in.

Your partner sees your name, your requests, your alerts, your streak and when your phone last checked in. Nobody else does.

Who we share it with

Only the services that run Tether: Supabase (the server), Twilio (phone number checks and confirmation texts), Apple and Google (sign-in and notifications), and Vercel (this website). If you turn on safe search on an iPhone or iPad, the device looks up website addresses through CleanBrowsing's filter, which is how adult sites and search results get blocked. We don't sell your information or use it for ads.

Deleting your data

Ask the person who runs Tether and your account, phone number, devices, partnerships and requests are deleted from the server.
